SSL Certificates

These days, an SSL Certificate is essential for securing confidence in your website.

Without one, Google may warn your website visitors that your website is not secure, and your customers may see a warning message when they try to access the website.  Your can tell whether your website has an SSL already by looking to the left of the search bar – a site with an SSL certificate will have https:// instead of http:// in the address, and there will be a closed padlock shown to the left of the search bar.

What is an SSL Certificate?

SSL stands for secure sockets layer.

An SSL certificate is a type of digital certificate that provides authentication for a website and creates an encrypted connection, protecting information like credit cards or personal data.  It is really important if a website asks for customer data, such as a web form – and it is absolutely essential for e-commerce sites.

This type of encryption means that all data passed between a website user and the website remains  private and secure. SSL encryption can help prevent hackers from stealing private information such as credit card numbers, bank information, names, and addresses – but it also creates trust with website users.

Why does having an SSL certificate create confidence in my website?

An SSL certificate means that the website user knows that the provider is who they claim to be and also indicates secure connections between their personal device and the website they are using.

I have an old website, do I still need an SSL Certificate?

We strongly recommend having an SSL certificate for your website, even if it was built years ago and even if you don’t sell anything online.

DesignWeb have helped many customers acquire an SSL already and it is something which can be set up easily and cheaply.
